The art of medicine require not only skills in clinical acumen but also reasoning. Since this is the second direct exposure to the hospital medicine for the students, this module will continue the already established traditional approach on patient’s history taking, clinical examination and formulation on problem list. The focus of PAM401A extended more including investigative methods and planning towards a problem list and a holistic approach on acute and long-term management.

This course will highlight the relevant knowledge of common diseases in hospital medicine practice in order to facilitate work as housemen and to a certain extent, medical officers. The soft-skills of communication and professionalism, including presentation is refined. Competence skills, such as recognising medical emergencies, diagnostic skills and breath of patient management is developed.

2 weeks is allocated for an introduction to Dermatology subspecialty. This encompass both in-patient and outpatient setting at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang. The emphasis of other medical subspecialty, namely cardiology, respiratory medicine, neurology, gastroenterology, nephrology, endocrinology, haematology, rheumatology, infectious diseases, emergency medicine, palliative and geriatric medicine, and radiology in medicine will be focused throughout the rest of the module. 

Active participation of lecturers and students are required to facilitate the course objectives. The lecturers, as well as other resources in the hospital, act both as facilitator and mentor. Attendance and active participation are therefore, compulsory.
